Washington, D.C.-- The Georgetown University baseball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2002 season. The Hoyas' 56-game schedule, which opens against William & Mary on February 9, features a difficult spring trip against fourth-place PAC-10 finisher UC-Berkley, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and St. Mary's College. Cal Poly and St. Mary's both finished the 2001 season ranked in the top twenty in NCAA statistical records, while UC-Berkley rode their 34-25 record all the way to the NCAA South Regional Tournament. Following the doubleheader with St. Mary's on March 9, the Hoyas will host a cookout for all Hoya alumni, family and friends.
The Hoyas will play home games against non-conference opponents URI and Lafayette and road games against Wofford, Davidson, Maryland and UMBC, before kicking off their BIG EAST schedule on March 16 with a home doubleheader against Seton Hall. Conference opponents West Virginia, Villanova, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech will all visit Shirley Povich Field this year, while the Hoyas will travel to Rutgers, St. John's, Boston College, Connecticut and Pittsburgh to round out their BIG EAST schedule.
The BIG EAST Championship will be held May 15-19. The site is yet to be determined.
