Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2001)--Ninth-ranked Rutgers shot 50 percent from the floor and held Georgetown to just 19 points in the second half on their way to a 65-48 win. The Scarlet Knights opened the second half with a 13-3 run and never trailed by less than 10 the rest of the way.
The Hoyas played a strong first half and trailed by one, 30-29, at halftime. GU's Rebekkah Brunson scored 16 of the team's 29 points in the first half. She finished the day with her 13th double-double, recording 26 points and 12 rebounds. Georgetown committed just two turnovers in the first half.
In the second half, Georgetown made only six field goals and had eight turnovers. Rutgers held the Hoyas to 29 percent shooting in the period. Rutgers point guard Tasha Pointer recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
The Hoyas, 15-13 overall and 6-10 in the BIG EAST, will open up the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament against Syracuse.
