GU's Men's Tennis Falls at American

Georgetown University's men’s tennis team traveled to American University on March 28. The Hoyas were unable to pull out a team victory and fell 7-0. Georgetown's overall record for the 2000-01 season now stands at 7-10.

At # 1 doubles, sophomore Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and freshman Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) never found their rhythm and lost to AU's Hamori and Moon 8-2. Junior Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and freshman Michael Nelson (Trinidad & Tobago/Port-of-Spain) played #2 doubles for GU. The duo fell behind early against AU's Jaysingh and Taralle and was closed out 8-5. GU's team of junior Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston) and Troy Crichlow (Milton, Mass./Milton) won the only match of the day for the Hoyas, 8-4, against the Eagles' Fliegelman and Procacci at #3 doubles.

In singles action GU played tough aggressive tennis in all six matches but was unable to come out on top in any of them. At #1 GU's Sklavounos lost to Hamori, 6-3, 6-4. Georgetown's Lohser took the court at #2 and fell to AU's Moon, 7-5, 6-3. The Hoyas' Crichlow played a tight match at #3 before he succumbed to Jaysingh, 6-4, 7-6. Cravedi played #4 for the Hoyas and had a difficult time getting started and recovered in the second set but still lost to Taralle, 6-0, 7-5. In the #5 slot GU's Benjamin could not break through on the big points and lost to Procacci, 7-6, 6-4. At #6 Georgetown's Nelson fell 6-2, 6-1 to AU's Garg.

This weekend Georgetown heads to Piscataway, N.J. for two matches against BIG EAST opponents. On Saturday Georgetown will play Providence and then Sunday the Hoyas face off with Rutgers.
