Georgetown Drops Sixth Straight, Lose 17-5

Despite scoring five runs on eleven hits, the Georgetown baseball team fell to Rutgers on Sunday, April 1 by a score of 17-5. Sophomore Jason Boice (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored twice and three other Hoyas reached home in the effort.

Boice singled in his first at on a bunt, then reached second off of a single by junior Mike Green (McLean, Va./Landon School). Senior Eric Santana’s (Santurce, P.R. (Edgewood, Md.)/Edgewood) grounder led to a throwing error by Rutgers, which scored Boice and advanced Green to third. Green scored shortly after when sophomore Robert O’Hare (San Jose, Calif./Mission College) singled to right field. O’Hare, with 13 RBIs, is tied for second on the team in the category with senior Jim Vankoski (Aston, Pa./Strath Haven).

The Hoyas followed a ten-run Rutgers’ fifth inning by scoring three times. Freshman Ron Cano (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) doubled to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior Marc Carlini (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) singled to center, driving home Cano. Soon after, consecutive singles by Boice and Green moved Carlini to third, and the senior scored on a sac fly to center from Vankoski. The fly out also moved Boice to third, who came home on a Santana single. Boice leads the team in runs scored, with 22.

Senior Randy Erwin picked up the loss for the Hoyas, and is now 2-4 on the year. Five other Hoya pitchers saw time against the Scarlet Knights, as well.

The Hoyas, who are now 8-20, will next face George Mason at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 3, in Fairfax, Va.
