Potomac, Md. -- Georgetown University's 2000-01 men's tennis team was honored this past weekend at the 2001 Men's Tennis Team Banquet. The team finished the season with an 8-12 overall dual match record and a 2-3 record in the BIG EAST.
Head Coach Rich Bausch announced sophomore, Troy Crichlow (Milton, Mass./Milton), as the recipient of the 2001 Most Valuable Player Award. Crichlow led the Hoyas in BIG EAST competition with a 7-2 record in both singles and doubles. He completed his sophomore campaign in the #3 singles position and posted an overall record of 11-7 in singles and 7-10 in doubles.
The 2001 Captain's Award, which is presented to the player who showed leadership by example and on-court determination, was given to Dennis Cravedi (Fr., Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep). In his first year of college tennis Cravedi worked his way to the #4 singles spot in the Hoyas lineup and compiled an 11-12 singles record and a 5-9 doubles record. The last time this award was given out was in 1993.
Co-recipients were named for the 2001 "Seventh" Man Award. This award goes to the player(s) who made the greatest contribution to the team with their play and support of their teammates. Junior Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/ St. Xavier) was one of the recipients. Jordan was the only Hoya to post a winning record in both singles and doubles, 7-2 and 5-4 respectively. He played the #6 singles slot in the fall and ended the spring season on the #3 doubles team. The other winner of the "Seventh" Man Award was sophomore and first year player Christopher Belelieu (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips). Belelieu was injured for the entire spring campaign but did continue to travel with the Hoyas and cheer on his teammates. During the fall season he won four out of five singles matches and was 1-2 in doubles.
