Potomac, Md. -- Georgetown University's 2000-01 women's tennis team was honored this past weekend at the 2001 Women's Tennis Team Banquet. The team finished the season with a 3-16 overall dual match record and a 1-7 record in the BIG EAST.
Head Coach Rich Bausch announced freshman, Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades), as the recipient of the 2001 Most Valuable Player Award. Botjer led the team in combined dual match singles and doubles wins with 13. She also led the Hoyas in dual match singles wins with five. Botjer played the #1 singles position for the Hoyas in the fall and ended her freshman campaign at #2 singles and #2 doubles.
The 2001 Comeback Player of the Year Award was given to Julie Hom (Sr., Newton, Mass./Newton South). Hom took two years off from Hoya tennis before returning her senior year. As a senior she posted a 4-13 overall singles record mainly at the #6 spot. Julie was 3-4 in BIG EAST singles competition and was 8-12 overall in doubles.
Junior Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) was named the 2001 "Seventh" Woman Award winner. This award goes to the player who made the greatest contribution to the team with their play and support of their teammates. Marshall battled through a fall injury to return in the spring and play #1 singles. She completed her junior year with a 2-9 singles record and a 5-10 doubles record.
