June 18, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tom Tamberrino (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall College), a senior on the Georgetown lacrosse team, has been selected as a 2001 USILA Scholar All-American. The award goes to 24 players who have excelled academically, athletically and as citizens of their respective communities. The award winners were recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-American banquet on June 8 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

The athletes named to the team are students with senior academic standing, who must meet the suggested academic criteria of a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) and be either a member of one of the All-America teams or one of the North-South all-star teams. All nominees must be of strong character and have conducted themselves on and off the field in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution and to the sport of collegiate men's lacrosse.

Tamberrino was earlier named to the ECAC Lacrosse League All-Academic Team. He graduated from Georgetown in May with a degree in marketing. Tamberrino had a pair of goals against Loyola in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoyas concluded the 2001 season with an 11-3 record. They reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight season under 12th year Head Coach Dave Urick
