Georgetown' Coed Sailing Team Ranked Second in Sailing World Preseason Poll

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University?s coed sailing team has received a second-place ranking in the fall Sailing World preseason college poll, as determined by Sailing World?s coaches? panel. Harvard University is ranked in first place.

During the 2001 season, the Hoyas clinched their first-ever ICSA National Championship and a fifth place finish at the prestigious Dinghy Championship. Georgetown was ranked #1 from March 19 to April 17 by Sailing World, and finished with an overall record of 18-3. In the fall, the coed team won 11 regattas, including the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Freshman Regatta, and finished in eighth place nationally. In addition, five Georgetown sailors were named to the ICSA/Ronstan All-America Team.

Georgetown opens their fall 2001 campaign on September 1-2 at Yale.
