Hunter to Transfer

August 15, 2001

WASHINGTON,  D.C. -- Men?s basketball Head Coach Craig Esherick announced today that Demetrius Hunter will transfer to a school in the western part of the country in the next few days in order to be closer to his infant child, who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hunter, a 6?2", 208 lb. guard, started 45 games in his two years as a Hoya, including every contest last season. As a sophomore he averaged nearly 26 minutes and 9.2 points per contest, making him the team?s third leading scorer.

"We wish Demetrius all the best." Coach Esherick said. " He?s leaving in good academic standing and although we?ll have to adjust the plans for the team involving him, we understand and support family responsibilities being taken seriously."

"Demetrius hasn?t determined yet where he will transfer, but he has committed to making the move. As I?ve said, this was Demetrius' decision and we all wish him well."

Hunter attended Cheyenne High School in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada. Described as an exceptional defender, Demetrius made his impact last season as a shooting guard, setting a career high of 21 points vs. Syracuse (2/24/01). He led the Hoyas in scoring four times last season.
