Georgetown Head Men's Basketball Coach Craig Esherick announced the team captains for the 2001-02 basketball season. Senior guard Kevin Braswell, junior forward Courtland Freeman and senior team manager Ryan Growney have been selected as the Hoya team captains.
Braswell is one of 50 preseason candidates for the John R. Wooden Award. He was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection last season and handed out 202 assists on the year placing him fifth in school history with 522 in his career. Braswell also had 94 steals in 2001-02 and became the school's all-time leader with 268. He has started all 98 games since arriving at GU in 1998.
Last season Freeman was injured for most of the year with back and foot injuries. He played in a total of six games during the 2000-01 campaign. During his freshman year Freeman saw action in every contest and finished the season averaging 14.1 minutes, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 points. He set career marks in both rebounds and points during his freshman year, scoring 11 points against West Virginia in the BIG EAST Tournament and ripping down 13 boards versus Southern.
The senior Growney enters his fourth year as team manager. He is in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown and is majoring in Finance. He hails from Las Vegas, Nevada and attended high school at Bishop Gorman.
