Georgetown Fares Well Against Nationally Ranked Opponents

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The women?s soccer team has completed its 2001 preseason with a strong showing against nationally recognized opponents George Mason and William and Mary.

The Hoyas defeated GMU 4-1 on August 22, 2001 at Harbin Field. George Mason was ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Soccer Buzz Magazine and seventh in the region in the NSCAA preseason poll.

Georgetown drew a 1-1 tie against nationally ranked William and Mary on August 25, 2001 in Williamsburg.

Goals were scored by forwards Karin Ostrander (Jr., Atherton, Calif./Menlo Atherton School), Courtney Shaub (So., Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Jen Choiniere (So., Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin). Assists were given to Shaub, Jessie Beers-Altman (So., State College, Pa./State College Area), Elizabeth Roberti (Fr., Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), Nicole DePalma (Fr., Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland).

The 2001 season marks the first nationally ranked recruiting class in Georgetown history. The new Hoyas were ranked 37th in the nation out of 300 Division I schools and sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Hoyas are in action again this weekend in a tournament at Purdue University.
