PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh Panthers fell to Georgetown, 73-56, Wednesday night at Fitzgerald Field House. Zsuzsanna Horvath (Budapest, Hungary/ELTE Trefort Agoston (Central Fla. C.C.)) totaled a career-high 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting to lead the Hoyas. Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) returned to the Hoyas lineup for the first time in six weeks and added six points and five rebounds during her 13 minutes on the court. Georgetown improved its record to 10-8 and 2-5 in conference play.
Georgetown opened up an 18-8 lead after the first 13 minutes of the first half. Pittsburgh responded with a 13-4 spurt to pull within one point, 22-21. However, Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) drained a half-court shot as time expired in the first half to stretch the Hoya lead to 29-24 at intermission.
Pittsburgh came out on fire in the second half, taking a 34-31 advantage thanks to two 3-pointers by Haley Harguth. Once again, Georgetown fired back and embarked on a game-clinching 25-9 run to grab a 56-43 lead. The Panthers would not get closer than nine points the rest of the contest.
For the game, the Hoyas dominated the glass as they outrebounded the Pittsburgh, 52-31, including pulling down 23 offensive boards. The Panthers shot just 35 percent from the field while Georgetown managed to hit 46 percent of its shots.
Horvath?s team leading 24 points was complimented by three other Hoyas in double figures. Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) (12), Lesley Walker (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) (11) and Lisicky (10) each posted double-digit scoring efforts. Walker also had her third double double of the season grabbing 11 rebounds.
