Georgetown Men's Basketball Loses to Pittsburgh, 67-56

1/26/2002

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Jaron Brown scored eight of his 12 points in the second half as 25th-ranked Pittsburgh rallied for a 67-56 Big East Conference victory over Georgetown and its first sweep of the season series in 63 years.

Julius Page had 16 points to lead the Panthers (18-3, 6-2 Big East West Division), who recorded a 68-67 victory a week ago at the MCI Center. They had not taken both meetings with Georgetown in the same season since 1938-39.

The schools met just twice between 1939 and 1982 but have played twice every season since, with the exception of the 1997-98 campaign.

Donatas Zavackas chipped in 11 points and Brandin Knight 10 for Pittsburgh, which has won three in a row since losing two straight and moved into a tie for first place with Syracuse in the Big East West.

Tony Bethel led all scorers with 20 points for Georgetown (12-7, 3-4), which has lost six of nine following a 9-1 start.
