Georgetown Hands RU Women Seventh-Straight Loss, 67-57

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Strong performances by junior forward Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) and senior captain Lesley Walker (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) allowed the Georgetown women's basketball team to overtake Rutgers, 67-57, on January 9 at the Rutgers Athletic Center. The Hoyas improve to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST, while the Scarlet Knights fall to 4-9, 1-2 in Conference play.

Rutgers came out strong in the first half, taking a 14-7 lead at the 10:23 mark. However, the Hoyas bounced back, scoring seven straight points over the next 2:32 to tie the game at 14. The game stayed tight until the final 3:12 of the half, when the Hoyas went on a 10-0 run to extend to a 30-20 lead at intermission.

Georgetown stretched its lead at the start of the second half, scoring the first five points to take a 35-20 lead with 18:34 left, and never looking back. The Hoyas led by as much as 22, with 8:36 left, as the Scarlet Knights never got closer than 10 for the rest of the contest.

Duany led Georgetown with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Walker added 17 points and eight assists. Walker is currently second on Georgetown's All-Time Career Assist List with 402. Freshman point guard Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) continued to play well for the Hoyas, scoring 16 points and sinking a game-high four of seven three-point field goals.

Freshman Amber Petillon kept the Scarlet Knights in the game, scoring six points in the first half and adding three rebounds. She finished with a career-high 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior Mauri Horton paced Rutgers with 15 points.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday, January 12 against Virginia Tech in McDonough Gym at 4 p.m.
