MORGANTOWN, W.Va - Georgetown (8-6-0, 3-3-0) traveled to the Mountaineer Soccer Complex to take on #11 West Virginia (11-1-1, 5-0-1) in their final BIG EAST conference match of the season, forcing the game into overtime before falling 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The match was deadlocked until the 94th minute when West Virginia capitalized on a well placed corner, heading the ball into the Hoya goal for the game winner.
Throughout 90 minutes of play the Hoyas' steady defense limited the Mountaineers to just four shots on goal, threatening to end West Virginia's 11 game unbeaten streak, but the equally impressive home squad stymied the Georgetown attack resulting in a scoreless tie at the end of regulation. Just four minutes and 25 seconds into extra time West Virginia scored the winning tally, dropping the Hoyas to 3-3 in BIG EAST play and seeding them fourth in the Mid-Atlantic for the BIG EAST Tournament.
Georgetown looks to rebound when they travel across town to face American University on Wednesday October 16 at 4:00 p.m.
