Georgetown (15-9, 6-6) fell in overtime on the road to Villanova (14-9, 5-7) by a score of 72-83 on 2/16/02. Mike Sweetney paced all scorers with 31 points. Kevin Braswell chipped in 15 points as well as 5 assists and 2 steals. Harvey Thomas rounded out the trio in double figures with 10 points. Gerald Riley paced the Hoyas' board men with 8 caroms.
The Hoyas played the first half in the deep freeze, hitting only 6 of 27 (22.2%) from the field and 1 of 10 from beyond the arc. In spite of "spotting" the Wildcats an 11 point lead at intermission (31-20) the Hoyas were not willing to give up the game.
In the second stanza the Hoyas upped their shooting percentage to 50.0, hitting 14 of 28 from the field. Georgetown erased a 13 point deficit to grab a lead in the closing 2 minutes, but treys by Snowden and Sales and a layup by Snowden with 2.5 seconds remaining put the game into overtime.
In the extra period Sweetney, Wilson and Thomas were all whistled out while the 'Cats had 4 players with 4 fouls but no diqualifications. The Wildcats also hit 100% (3-3) of their shots from the field in OT, while the Hoyas hit 2 of 17. The loss was Georgetown's second consecutive overtime road loss to Villanova.
