The women's tennis team claimed its first victory of the season against local rival George Mason on Friday February 15.

The Hoyas started out slowly in the doubles competition but picked up the pace quickly as the #1 Hoya doubles team of Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) and Chelsea Kammerer (Deerfield, Ill./ (Michigan)) defeated Darri Thayaprasat and Dinali DeSilva 8-2. Having forfeited the #3 doubles match to George Mason, the Hoyas needed to win the #2 doubles match to claim the team doubles point and first year team members Stephanie Sutton (Arlington, Texas/(Sam Houston State)) and Monisha Ghia did just that. The Hoya tandem squeaked past Katie Sloper and Monica Ramallo 9-8 with a 7-3 tiebreak score.

The Hoyas then put the match away with wins at #4, #5 and #6 singles. Marshall recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ramallo, while Sutton and Kammerer both won 6-0, 6-0 over their Patriot opponents. The top of the Hoya line-up faced considerably more opposition. Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) dropped Thayaprasat at #1 singles 6-3, 6-1. Lara Madonia (Ramsey, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) bested Sloper at #3 singles 6-4, 6-1. Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) closed out the day for the Hoyas at #2 taking her match in a third set tiebreaker 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.

The Hoyas next host Davidson on Friday February 22 beginning at 3:00pm at the Montclair Tennis Bubble.
