Piscataway, N.J. ? Freshman Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and sophomore Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) were both honored at the BIG EAST Women?s Basketball Championship awards banquet for their efforts during the 2001-02 Hoya campaign. Lisicky was named to the All-Rookie Team while Brunson was an Honorable Mention Team selection.
Lisicky ended her inaugural campaign with the Hoya as the team?s third leading scorer with 11.8 ppg and started every game for GU at point guard. She set two Georgetown records during the 2001-02 season, including the single season record for three pointers with 76 and most three pointers in a game with seven. In the BIG EAST she placed among the league leaders in three pointers per game (second ? 2.63), three-point field goal percentage (fourth -.390), assists (13th ? 3.48 apg) and assist to turnover ratio (1.25).
For the second straight year Brunson received an award from the BIG EAST. Last season she was selected as the 2000-01 Rookie of the Year. She led the Hoyas in scoring and rebounding netting 15.1 ppg and grabbing 8.5 rpg. Due to a leg injury early in the year Brunson did not play in 75% of Georgetown?s games and thus could not be included in the conference?s statistics. If she were included in the statistics she would have finished the season fifth in scoring and tied for second in rebounding. Her shooting percentage of .481 would have placed her fourth in the conference as well.
