The men's tennis team posted two shut-out victories this past week as they blanked local rival George Mason and BIG EAST rival Villanova. The Hoyas did not drop a set in singles play in either match. The Hoyas currently stand at 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference play and 6-5 overall for the 2002 season.
Georgetown used the same singles and doubles lineup in both matches. The doubles tandems of Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset)/Erik Bildman (Brookline, Mass./Roxbury Latin School), Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford)/Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston)/Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) were victorious both days. #1 Lohser and Bildman won 8-6 against GMU and 9-8 (4) versus Nova. At #2 Sklavounos and Jordan won 8-3 and 8-6 against GMU and Villanova, respectively. In the #3 position Benjamin and Cravedi posted 8-5 (GMU) and 8-3 (VU) wins.
In the singles portion GU played well on the Outdoor Tennis Complex courts. At #1 Lohser defeated Mason 6-3, 6-3 and beat Villanova?s top player 6-4, 7-5. Holding down the #2 and #3 slot was senior tri-captain Benjamin. He defeated GMU?s #2 6-2, 6-2 and Villanova?s #3 6-3, 6-4. Cravedi was victorious against Nova?s #3 6-4, 6-1. Troy Crichlow (Milton, Mass./Milton) played #3 and #4 beating GMU #3 6-2, 6-1 then defeating Nova #4 6-4, 6-4. Playing #4 and #5 for GU was Bildman and he finished off GMU 6-1, 6-1 and then took down Villanova 6-3, 6-3. The other two captains Sklavounos and Jordan played #5 and #6 respectively for GU. Sklavounos soundly won against GMU at #5 6-0, 6-2 and he handed Nova?s #6 a loss 6-1, 6-1. Jordan succeeded against GMU 6-0, 6-2.
Next up for the Hoyas is a visit from Duquesne on Thursday March 28. That match will be played at the Georgetown Outdoor Tennis Complex beginning at 3:30 p.m.
