3/20/2002 Kevin Braswell named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week? Kevin?s pair of double-doubles in Georgetown?s victories at West Virginia and over Rutgers gained him the Conference nod for the week ending 3/3/02. Kevin scored 11 points and tied his career high in steals with 12 at West Virginia. In the Rutgers game he scored 18 points, tied the Georgetown record for assists in a game with 16 and became Georgetown?s All Time Assist leader. Kevin?s assist to turnover ratio for the week was 14-1.
Mike Sweetney selected 1st team All BIG EAST ? Mike Sweetney, the Hoyas? leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 19.3 points and more than 10 rebounds (10.1) per game, was chosen for the 1st team all conference. Leading the league in Field Goal Percentage and 2nd in Rebounding, Mike has 15 double- doubles this season, bringing his career total to 21, and has led the team in scoring 16 times in 28 games, including two 31+ point performances. Mike?s improvement from the stripe from 61.9% to 79.6% is the fourth greatest in the nation according to STATS. Inc.
Kevin Braswell selected 3rd team All BIG EAST? The Hoyas? ?Iron Man?, who started every contest possible over his collegiate career was selected to the BIG EAST All 2nd Team. Georgetown?s All Time Assist leader and All Time Steals leader averaged 14.7 points, 5.85 assists, 2.75 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game while hitting 83.8 % of his free throws.
Mike Sweetney has also been named a candidate for ESPN The Magazine's College Basketball Award. Mike is joined by nominees Sam Clancy of USC and Drew Gooden of Kansas in the Men's Power Forward of the Year category. USA Today/ESPN Board of Coaches will select the winners for the March 28 Event. The awards program will take place in Atlanta in conjunction with the Final Four.
