Men' Tennis Holds on Against Howard

Georgetown escaped Howard's upset bid Sunday afternoon February 24 at the Georgetown outdoor Tennis Complex. The final score of the match was Georgetown-4, Howard-3.

The Hoyas got things rolling in the right direction with a sweep of the doubles matches. The Hoyas #1 team of doubles Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Erik Bildman (Brookline, Mass./Roxbury Latin School) won their first match together, defeating Jibade Thomas and Dwayne Pagon 8-5. The #2 doubles team for the Hoyas Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) played an extended pro-set winning 9-8 over Lorenzo Fuesezi and Jon Hall Bryant. Georgetown's #3 team Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston) and Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) won their second straight match, an 8-1 victory over Roddy Dudley and Andre Taylor.

With a 1-0 advantage in the doubles Georgetown needed to win three of the six singles matches. The Hoyas squeaked out the victory by winning at #2, #4 and #6. Cravedi hung on and won at #2 7-5, 7-6 (4) as did Bildman at #4, 7-6 (1), 6-1. Jordan was the only Hoya to cruise during his match and won at #6 6-1, 6-2. GU lost at #1 with Lohser going down 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, at #3 with Benjamin falling 6-3, 6-3 and at #5 where Sklavounos lost 7-6 (6), 6-2.
