The men's tennis team completed the 2001-2002 season with a dual match loss to BIG EAST Conference rival West Virginia. The win by West Virginia propelled them into the BIG EAST Conference Championship Tournament, while Georgetown ends it season with a record of 7-9.
In the doubles competition that opened the match, the Hoyas had a good chance to take the early lead as the #3 doubles team of Andre Benjamin (New York, N.Y./Fieldston) and Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) defeated their West Va. opponents. However, the senior tandem of Nick Sklavounos (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and Ken Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) fell in a tight pro-set 9-8 to abruptly halt the Hoya hopes of the 1-0 lead going into the singles competition.
In singles play the Hoyas were led by a determined Sklavounos who won the #6 singles match in a third set tiebreaker. West Virginia won the #1 through #5 singles matches without dropping a set.
