WASHINGTON, DC ? After a physical game, the Georgetown Women?s soccer team was unable to net a goal, in their 2-0 loss to Villanova Friday on North Kehoe Field. With the loss, the Hoyas record falls to 4-7-0 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 10-2-0.
Villanova scored midway through the first half to take the lead, 1-0. Lindsey Finnegan received a far-post cross from Michelle Biehl and volleyed the ball over the head of freshman goalkeeper Erin Mazursky (Atlanta, Ga./ Pace Academy). Mazursky had 2 saves on the day, which included some challenging clearances off of six Villanova corner kicks.
In the second half, the Hoyas picked up the aggressive play and held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of game, until in the 85th minute of play when Laura Johnson had taken a pass from Lindsey Finnegan and shot the ball low past Mazursky. The ball deflected off of the post, before sophomore defender Kyle Holsinger-Johnson (Rockland, Del./ Wilmington Friends) could reach and clear it off the line.
During the second half of play, senior co-captain Jen Choiniere (Merrimack, N.H./ Bishop Guertin) received a yellow card, in the 61st minute, while challenging for the ball inside the box. The aggressive play for the Hoyas continued throughout the second half and junior Nicole DePalma (Thiells, N.Y./ North Rockland) also received a yellow card, in the 82nd minute, while trying to deliver the ball to the striking forwards.
The loss snapped Mazursky?s four-game winning streak, making her record 4-1 as a starter for the season.
Georgetown?s next game will be Oct. 5, at home, against West Virginia at 1 p.m.
