NEWARK, N.J. -- The Georgetown University women?s basketball team was picked to finish ninth of 14 teams in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll. The poll is determined by a vote of the league?s head coaches who were not permitted to place their own teams on their ballots.
The University of Connecticut, last year?s national champion, was picked to win the regular season title. This marks the 11th consecutive season that UConn has been chosen to win the regular season title. The Huskies were followed by Rutgers, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech in second, third, and forth, respectively.
Georgetown senior forward Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) was a unanimous selection to the preseason All-BIG EAST first team. Connecticut?s Diana Taurasi, last year?s BIG EAST Player of the Year, was the coaches? unanimous choice to repeat as 2003-2004 Player of the Year.
