Hoyas Rout Israeli All Stars in Exhibition

11/1/2003

The Hoyas won a game that they literally could not lose on Saturday as they faced Georgetown in their home whites. How is this possible? The Israeli All Star team that the Hoyas were facing had a uniform mishap and came to the game without anything to wear. Being good hosts, the Hoyas let the visitors use a set of last year's home jerseys (white with Georgetown on the front) while they wore away uniforms (blue with Hoyas on the front). So, with Hoyas vs Georgetown whoever won would be wearing the school's uniform.

The Hoyas (from Georgetown) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Gerald Riley led the team in scoring with 19 points while pulling down 7 boards. Brandon Bowman, who led the team in rebounding with 13 had a double-double as he poured in 15 points. Courtland Freeman also scored 15 points and did it in only 17 minutes of playing time. RaMell Ross hit 6 of 7 from the field to add 14 points in his 16 minutes on the floor and Freshman Ray Reed rounded out the quintet of double figure scorers with 12 points. Ray also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

For Georgetown (from Israel) Shimon Amsalem paced all scorers with 24. Fred Williams had a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards and Malcolm Smith added 14 tallies.
