The Skinny
Georgetown and Hobart take their lacrosse sticks to the state of Texas for the first Division I game in over 32 years in the "Lone Star State". This is a matchup of two institutions whose coaching staffs are quite familiar with each other. GU head coach Dave Urick was Hobart?s head man for 10 seasons between 1980-90 and brought 10 straight NCAA Championships to the Statesmen while Hobart head coach Matt Kerwick was one of Urick?s players between 1986-90 and also was an assistant coach at Georgetown between 1999-01.
Georgetown is on a two game winning streak to open the 2003 season. The Hoyas are allowing 7.50 goals per game and second year man Andy Corno has been phenomenal at the "X", winning 78.6% (33-of-42) of his faceoffs. GU?s upperclassmen have taken over the offensive load as junior Neal Goldman, senior Mike Hammer and junior Walid Hajj are accountable for 54% of GU?s point production thus far in 2003.
Hobart is the last team to keep the explosive Hoya offense under 10 goals and that was last year with the Hoyas prevailing 8-7. The 2-0 Statesmen are defensive oriented holding the opposition to 3.5 goals per game and averaging 15.0 saves a contest.
