The Skinny
The Hoyas have opened the 2003 season with four straight victories, defeating their opponents by an average of five goals. Duke meanwhile owns a 6-2 record with their losses coming at Maryland and at UNC. In 1999 Georgetown snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Blue Devils defeating Duke 17-14 in the NCAA Tournament. Including that victory Georgetown has won three of the last four against Duke and has won the past two meetings.
The question for Georgetown this season was how the offense would make up for the loss of last year?s leader Steve Dusseau. Thus far the answer is "by commitee" as 15 different Hoyas have scored goals. Leading the scoring barrage is junior Neal Goldman who has posted nine goals but seven other Hoyas have nailed three or more this season. On defense GU?s Pat Collins has been a consistent defender helping the "D" hold the opposition to only 6.8 goals per game. He was named the ECAC Defensive Player of Week this past week.
Duke has been relying on three players for offense as Matt Rewkowski, Kevin Brennan and Kevin Cassese have all scored 15 or more goals each. The Blue Devil defense is headed up by senior goalie A.J. Kincel who is allowing 8.25 goals per game and boasts a .585 save percentage.
