SOUTH BEND, Ind. ? In the third and final game of the weekend series, Georgetown baseball (6-15, 1-8) lost 12-5 to Notre Dame (16-6, 5-1) on Sunday at Eck Stadium.
Hoya starter Warren Sizemore (Hamilton, Ohio/Ross) faced the toughest challenge of his young collegiate career, facing the nationally ranked Irish and their potent offense. Notre Dame exploded for nine runs in the first four innings before the Hoyas settled, holding the home squad hitless in the fifth and sixth frames.
Georgetown put two on the board in the seventh as Ron Cano (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) and Robert O?Hare (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) each scored with two outs against the Hoyas. Notre Dame responded with two more to jump ahead 11-2 before Georgetown rallied for a three-run eighth to close the gap slightly. Ryan Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) hit a sac fly to center to bring across Jim Supple (Summit, N.J./St. Peter?s Prep) before O?Hare doubled, Cano walked, and Drew Dargen (Edmond, Okla./Edmond North) slapped a two-out single through the left side to bring in two runs.
Notre Dame scored its final run in the eighth and shut out GU in the ninth for the 12-5 win.
Sizemore took the loss, dropping him to 3-2 on the season.
