Men's Lax Takes On Mt. St. Mary's

4/23/2003

Georgetown at Mt. St. Mary's
Wednesday, April 23, 2003

Emmitsburg, Md.

The Skinny
Georgetown has not faced Mt. St. Mary?s since a 23-3 victory in 1995. The Hoyas hold a four game winning streak against MSM but the overall series was dominated by the Mount early. Mt. St. Mary?s won the first 15 games between the institutions, beginning in 1973.

Last week the Hoyas lost for the first time all season, falling at UMass 8-11. In every game this year Georgetown has won the battle for ground balls and in only one contest has GU been on the lower end of face-0ff wins. Logging a majority of those face-off wins for GU has been face-off specialist Andy Corno. Corno has won over 65% of his attempts at the "X" and is ranked third nationally in win %. Getting the benefit of Corno?s work has been the Hoya offense and defense. Leading the "O" has been senior captain Mike Hammer who leads the team in points with 27 and in assists with 15. On defense Georgetown is allowing 6.89 goals per game and rookie cage tender Rich D?Andrea is on his way to having the most complete year ever for a first year goalie at Georgetown.

Mt. St. Mary?s meanwhile is on a six game winning streak and has moved into first place in the MAAC Conference. In MSM?s seven victories they have won by an average of 6.7 goals. The Mount has faced two common opponents with Georgetown, falling at UMBC 7-16 and at Loyola 3-10.
