Georgetown University Director of Athletics Joseph Lang announced today that Head Men?s Basketball Coach Craig Esherick has agreed to a contract extension through the 2008-2009 season.
?This extension clearly indicates the University?s continuing commitment to Coach Esherick and his leadership of the program? said Mr. Lang. ?Craig has averaged over 20 wins per season in his 4 full seasons as head coach, leading us to the sweet 16 and the NIT final. We are confident entrusting our program and our students playing men?s basketball to his care.?
Coach Esherick said ?I?ve been a part of the basketball program at Georgetown for more than 25 years and I?m happy that this extension demonstrates that the University recognizes and appreciates my commitment. I?m grateful to President DeGioia, Athletic Director Lang, my University colleagues and everyone involved for supporting me, our athletes and our basketball program. There is no place I would rather coach than at my alma mater.?
Craig Esherick graduated from the Georgetown School of Business with a finance degree in 1978. He was a 4-year letterman in basketball, twice winning the Basketball Scholar Athlete Award. He graduated from Georgetown Law School in 1982. After serving as an assistant coach at St. Anthony?s High School (1978-79), Craig worked as a Graduate Assistant (1979-81).
