Now that the school year has ended and the summer is here, what?s a basketball coach to do? Here?s a few of the things that Coach Esherick has been busy with since the start of June:

Coaches vs Cancer Golf Tournament at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY. Craig joined fellow alums Kevin O?Brien (?73), Jim Higgins (?70) and Steve Paluszek (?79) for a foursome at the site of the 2003 PGA. Other attendees at this charity event to fight cancer included National Champion coaches Jim Boehiem (Syracuse), Gary Williams (Maryland), Jim Calhoun (Connecticut), Dean Smith (North Carolina), Jim Harrick (UCLA) as well as a who?s who of college basketball including Bill Guthridge (UNC), Jay Wright (Villanova), Richardo Patton (Colorado), Steve Lapas (Massachusetts), Mark Gottfried (Alabama), Fran Dunphy (Pennsylvania), Clark Kellog (ESPN) and Mark Plansky (ESPN).

Moody Bible Institute in Chicago for the NBA pre-draft camp. Craig accompanied Wesley Wilson as he demonstrated his talents for the pros. The advice and support of his college coach was profitable for Wesley as he scored 16 points in 17 minutes in a scrimage on Thursday.

Taste of the Game at McDonough Arena on Georgetown?s campus. Participating in an event aimed at raising money for programs on child nutrition in the district, Craig, aided by his assistant coaches and some current players, joins several fellow Georgetown head coaches to spend the day conducting clinics. These clinics for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 involve basketball, football, track, soccer and lacrosse. The well attended event is a huge success in spite of torrential rains. Washington Wizard?s Jahidi White and the Washington Freedom?s Jennifer Grubb make guest appearances. Mary?s Place receives the proceeds generated by the event to support their work against childhood malnutrition.

Stay in School Rally in Baltimore, Maryland. Coach Esherick joins Mayor Martin O?Malley at Cecil Elementary School to speak on the importance of education. Craig is joined by such coaches as Jim Calhoun (Connecticut), Rob Lanier (Sienna), Butch Beard (Morgan State) in the event emceed by local television personality Keith Mills. Craig speaks to the need for education in creating a full life.
New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Washington DC?. A pretty hectic itinerary considering that covers just the first 10 days of a ?slow? month. Almost makes one yearn for the ?quiet? of February.
