WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Two Georgetown players posted hat tricks Wednesday night as the visiting Hoyas steamrolled Howard University, 9-1, in a non-conference game at Greene Stadium. With the win, Georgetown improves its season record to 3-5, and now has a 3-game winning streak heading into its BIG EAST Mid-Atlantic Division opener this Friday against Pittsburgh.
Freshman Chrissy Skogen (San Marino Calif./ San Marino) and sophomore Shara McNeill (Avon, Conn./ Avon) each scored three goals on the day, while senior Jessie Beers-Altman (State College, Pa./ State College Area) added two more, and junior Nicole DePalma (Thiells, N.Y./ North Rockland) scored off a penalty kick to give the Hoyas a staggering 9 goals on the day?the most the team has scored since Sept. 4, 2002, when they defeated Howard 9-5.
Erin Mazursky (Atlanta, Ga./ Pace Academy) made 2 saves on the day en route to extending her record to a perfect 3-0. Howard managed only 11 shots in the game, to the Hoyas? 29, and strong defense limited the Bison to only 3 shots-on-goal.
Casey McCann (Mendham, N.J./ Mendham) notched 2 assists on the day, while Beers-Altman, McNeill, Courtney Shaub (Chevy Chase, Md./ Winston Churchill) and Jen Choiniere (Merrimack, N.H./ Bishop Guertin) each picked up one assist.
Howard?s lone goal came in the 39th minute, when Ranieka Bean scored off a pass from Allison Smith. Georgetown?s defense held the Bison scoreless for the entire second period.
The Hoyas? next game is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 3:00 p.m. against Pittsburgh, and will be held on Georgetown?s North Kehoe Field.
