Georgetown lost on the road on 1/10/04, falling to West Virginia by a score of 58-62. Ashanti Cook and Brandon Bowman led the Hoyas? scoring with 16 points each. Brandon also led all rebounders with 12 boards. Gerald Riley added 13 tallies while Darrel Owens pulled down 10 boards and added 8 points.
The first half was an extremely low scoring affair with neither team reaching double digits until the 8:00 minute mark. Tied at 15 with 5:12 remaining, 6 missed shots and two turnovers kept the Hoyas from changing the scoreboard while the Mountaineers added 7 points for a 22-15 halftime score.
In the second stanza West Virginia pumped their lead up to 13 before Georgetown mounted a 16-5 comeback. The Mountaineers then went on a scoring run of their own to put the lead back to 13. With 4:12 remaining the Hoyas launched a 10-0 run and trailed by 3 with 2:28 remaining. Unfortunately, a festival of whistles and some missed shots combined to put the Hoyas behind by 9 in the final minute.
For the game the Hoyas won the battle of the boards 45-40, forced 21 turnovers and hit 6 more shots than the Mountaineers (4 of them treys). West Virginia scored 20 more points from the charity stripe (28 of 40) to Georgetown?s 8 of 12.
