Women's Soccer Shuts Out Providence, 1-0

Providence, R.I. (AP)--Georgetown women's soccer (5-4-0;2-0) shut out BIG EAST opponent Providence (3-8-0;0-4), 1-0 Friday October 1, 2004 at Glay field in Providence, Rhode Island.

The game was a battle of the midfield, with each team looking to notch a goal with the first half scoreless. The lone goal of the game was off an offensive manuever by junior Shara McNeill (Avon, Conn./Avon) who dribbled between defenders and notched the game winning goal at the 83rd minute, giving the Hoyas the 1-0 victory.

Georgetown dominated the game, having outshot the Friars 19-6. Freshman goalie Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) posted her third shutout of the season, and her second BIG EAST shutout.

The Hoyas next contest will be on Sunday, October 3 at Connecticut at 1 p.m.
