The Scoop
For the second consecutive season the Hoyas open the campaign with local rival George Washington. GU defeated the Colonials last season 67-62 at the Smith Center and currently is on a three game winning streak against the Foggy Bottom squad. The overall series slightly favors GW 16-14. This will be the first game of Georgetown Basketball under the tutelage of new Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. During Williams-Flournoy's four seasons as an assistant coach at GU (1992-1996) the Hoyas posted a 3-1 mark against the Colonials.

Senior Mary Lisicky is part of a senior class that has been saddled with only one local rival loss (7-1 against GW, GMU, AU and UMD since 2001) in three seasons and that came last year against Maryland in overtime in San Diego. Lisicky is part of GU's strong corps of guards, which includes senior Sarah Jenkins, junior Bethany LeSueur, sophomore Kate Carlin and freshman Kristin Heidloff. This season will be a test in the paint with the departure of Rebekkah Brunson but senior Varda Tamoulianis has been a monster down low in the Hoyas two exhibition games, recording a double-double (17 pts., 14 rebs.) in game one and then grabbing 19 boards in game two. She is flanked by freshman Kieraah Marlow who had a double-double in exhibition game two, scoring 20 points and securing 13 rebounds.

George Washington was hit hard by graduation losing four players and three starters from a team that won 22 games and finished tops in the Atlantic 10 West division. Returning senior Anna Montanana and Liz Dancause lead the Colonials in 2004-05. Montanana averaged over 12 points and over seven rebounds as a junior.
