Check out the Highlights of the Game!
In spite of a balanced scoring attack (4 Hoyas scoring between 9 and 12 points) and amazingly outrebounding a much larger Temple squad 40-36, the Hoyas fell on 11/22/04 in their home opener to visiting Temple, 57-75. Roy Hibbert garnered his first collegiate double-double, scoring 12 point while pulling down 10 caroms. Brandon Bowman also scored a dozen points to tie Hibbert in leading the Hoyas scoring while Jeff Green matched Hibbert in board work to co-lead all rebounders with 10 while pouring in 9 points. Ashanti Cook scored 11 points and led the Hoyas in assists with 4.
In the first frame the Hoyas kept it close with the larger and more experienced Owls, trailing by 2 with less than three minutes to play in the half. Unfortunately, the young Hoyas found out that veteran teams know how to close the period and watched as the Owls ran off 11 unanswered including a banked in buzzer beater from beyond the arc. At halftime the score was GU 25, Temple 38.
In the second stanza although the Hoyas improved their shooting accuracy, they did not take enough care of the ball and gave up 11 turnovers while only causing 2. This gave the hot shooting Owls (45.9% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc) more opportunities to put the biscuit in the basket which they did. The final score was 57-75.
