Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- New Georgetown women's basketball Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy began her head coaching career with a 67-66 victory over the Netherlands tonight when Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./ Whitehall) hit a 10-foot jumper off a feed from fellow senior Varda Tamoulianis (Moscow, Russia/ Academy of Labour and Social Relations) with 1.4 seconds to play. Lisicky, stepping into her new role as the Hoyas primary scoring threat, led GU with 24 points on 6-of-10 three point shooting. Tamoulianis recorded a double-double, picking up 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The game began with hot shooting all around, with both teams shooting over 50% for the half. The Netherlands began to pull ahead late in the period, leading by as many as 10, but the Hoyas came back to cut the Dutch lead to 36-32 going into the break.

The Hoyas came out strong in the final period and quickly erased Holland's lead. The game went back and forth throughout the entire period, and the two teams found themselves tied with one minute to play and Bethany LeSueur (Jr., Garden City, N.Y./Garden City (Virginia)) shooting a one-and-one. LeSueur missed the front end, but Kieraah Marlow (Fr., Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) was there to grab the rebound and give the Hoyas another chance, which resulted in a Kate Carlin (So., Ambler, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's) bucket and a two point Georgetown lead. The Netherlands remained poised and got the ball to Irene Sloof, who hit her third three pointer to put the Dutch back in front. The Hoyas missed on the next possession, but they benefited from a missed Netherlands one-and-one and took possession in time to set up the game winning score.

The Hoyas held the rebounding edge 37-33. Holland fired away from the three-point line, attempting 29 and hitting 10. Georgetown shot 6-of-13 from the arc, with all six makes coming from Lisicky. The Netherlands hit 6 of 7 from the stripe while GU connected on 7-of-13.

The Hoyas final tune-up will be next Monday, November 15, when they face UMMC -- Ekaterinburg at 7:30 in McDonough Arena.
