Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University women's basketball team (3-4) opened up a rare Hoya hoops doubleheader at McDonough Arena with an impressive 79-52 victory over the Leopards of Lafayette (2-5). The Hoyas' defense dominated the Leopards early, allowing only 16 points in the first half, and forcing a total of 28 turnovers in the game. The Hoyas depth was another factor as GU outscored the Leopards 38-14 in points off the bench.

The Hoyas were led offensively by Kate Carlin (So., Ambler, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's), who scored a career high 17 points and hit 3-of-4 three pointers. Kieraah Marlow (Fr, Coatesville, Pa./ Coatesville) contributed 15 points and had a team high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Freshman point guard Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) contributed 12 points, also a career high. Vanessa VanDeVenter and Lindsay Myers who scored 13 and 12 points respectively paced the Leopards.

Georgetown came out strong against the Leopards and never looked back. The Hoyas led by 20 at halftime and led by as many as 36 in the second half. The starting five continued its even play as Marlow led all starters with seven points in the first half while Varda Tamoulianis (Moscow, Russia/Academy of Labour and Social Relations), Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) each contributed five points. Lafayette cut the lead to 20 late in the game, but strong play by the Georgetown reserves led to a strong finish for the Hoyas, winning by 27. Freshman Jamie Mundy (Proctorville, Ohio/Spring Valley) saw her first action of the season and scored her first career bucket late in the second half.

The Hoyas shot well on the day hitting 45% from the floor and 40% of their three pointers compared to 37% and 18%, respectively, for Lafayette.

The Hoyas are off this week for finals, and will return to action on Tuesday, December 21st against Canisius. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at McDonough Arena.
