PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- Georgetown's women's basketball team fell to host La Salle in the first game of the La Salle Classic by a score of 79-67, snapping GU's two-game winning streak. The Explorers improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Hoyas fall to 4-5 with the loss.
The Explorers trailed just once in the entire game when Georgetown took a 4-2 lead at the 19:01 mark in the first half. La Salle led for the rest of the game taking leads as big as 17 in the first half and 25 in the second half.
Georgetown was led by freshman Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), the reigning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, who scored 19 points and recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 11 rebounds. Also recording a double-double for GU was junior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) who totaled 11 points, connecting on 9-of-10 free throws, and had 10 rebounds. The final Hoya in double digits was Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's) with 10 points. Senior Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) returned to the lineup after missing last week's game with a hip injury and scored nine points and a game high seven assists.
La Salle was led by sophomore Crista Ricketts with 21 points and nine rebounds. She was 10-14 from the field leading her team to an impressive 52% field goal percentage on the game.
The Hoyas went on a 21-7 run in the middle of the second half and brought the score to within 11 at the 8:19 mark, but La Salle's Shaune McLaughlin silenced the run draining a three and putting the Explorers back up 14.
Georgetown will face Kent State in the second game of the La Salle Classic tomorrow, Wednesday, December 29th, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
