12/28/2004 After an easy opening half the Hoyas were hard pressed by a determined Norfolk State squad and required an extra 5 minutes to defeat the visitors. Brandon Bowman notched his second consecutive double-double (third of the season and eighth of his career) as he led all scorers with 23 points while grabbing a team high 11 rebounds. Brandon also led the team in blocks with 4 and steals with 4. Jeff Green added 15 tallies, 4 assists and 8 boards, Darrel Owens contributed 14 points and 7 caroms while Ashanti Cook rounded out the quartet of double figure scorers with 13 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.

The Hoyas built a double digit lead with 5:09 remaining in the first frame. Shooting 57.7% from the field while holding the visitors to a flat 40%, the Hoyas enjoyed a lead of as many as 14 points, but by intermission the lead was 10, 35-25. The Hoyas were winning the battle of the boards by a slim margin and looked to cruise through the second half.

Unfortunately, Norfolk State was unaware of their hosts? plans and came out in the second half ready to play. When they established a 1 point lead of their own 45-46 at the 10:37 mark, the import of the situation hit home. A see-saw battle ensued with neither team able to escape the other by more than 4 points. Regulation ended in a tie of 61 all.

In the extra frame GU demonstrated that they had also come to play. Grabbing a 3 point lead at 04:39 of OT, the Hoyas would not loosen their grip on the brass ring. Improving from their second half shooting slump of 8 for 25 (32%) to hit 6 of 7 (85.7%) the Hoyas maintained their slight rebound edge. Bowman found the close shave a source of inspiration as he scored 8 of his game high 23 points in overtime. The final score was 78-70.
