PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The Georgetown University women's basketball team (5-5) defeated Kent State 65-59 Wednesday night in Tom Gola Arena in the second game of the La Salle Classic. The Hoyas ended with a 1-1 record in the Classic. Three Georgetown players scored in double digits, with freshman Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) leading the Hoyas with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 boards. Senior Sarah Jenkins (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist (Maryland)) added 12 points while senior Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) contributed 10.

The first half was evenly played, with Georgetown slightly outshooting Kent State 38.5% to 33.3%, yet Kent State held a five point lead, 29-24 by the end of the first half. Jenkins led Hoya scorers with 10 points in the first half, while senior Varda Tamoulianis (Moscow, Russia/Academy of Labour and Social Relations) contributed seven points.

Georgetown came out in the second half strong, as Lisicky, who was held scoreless in the first half, hit a jumper only 12 seconds into the second half to bring the Hoyas within three. Marlow kept the momentum for the Hoyas as she scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half and hit 7-9 free throws. Kent State battled back and kept the lead until Georgetown freshman Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) nailed a three-pointer with 12:22 remaining to tie the game at 42. The Hoyas kept the momentum for the rest of the game with Lisicky hitting five of six free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Kent State was led by Milika Willoughby and Lindsay Shearer who scored 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Georgetown will next travel to Clemson, where they will take on the Tigers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 2.
