The Hoyas captured their third-straight victory tonight as they defeated the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State by a score of 66-53. With the win, Georgetown improves to 3-1.
Brandon Bowman paced all scorers with 28 tallies (only 2 short of his personal best), while accumulating 5 steals, 3 blocks and a pair of assists. Jeff Green scored his first collegiate double-double, scoring 18 points and leading the GU rebounding effort with 10 boards. Jeff also had 6 blocks, 3 assists and was only whistled for a single foul. Jonathan Wallace rounded out the trio of Hoyas in double figures with 10 tallies.
The Hoyas jumped out to a 17 point lead in the opening minutes, scoring 7 of 10 field goals while making 6 steals in the first 5 minutes of play. After the first media timeout the Hoyas calmed some while the Lions took stock of themselves. With 06:43 on the clock the Hoyas led by 9, 21-12. GU built the lead back to 14 before the end of the period but a Penn State layup in the final seconds cut the differential to 10, 31-21.
In the second stanza the Lions cut into Georgetown?s lead, reducing it to only 3 (42-39) with 11:45 remaining. Despite the shift in momentum and the suddenly awakened Penn State cheering section, the Hoyas forced turnovers and made shots until the lead was back in double digits. With 5:30 remaining the Hoyas led by 11 (57-46) and the lions would come no closer.
Georgetown shot 45.6% from the field while holding Penn State to 32.0%. The Hoyas were outrebounded 32-36 but forced 19 turnovers while giving up 13, had 12 steals to PSU?s 7, 14 assists to the Nittany Lions 6 and 11 blocks to Penn State?s 2.
