WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University senior women's soccer player Jessie Beers-Altman (State College, Pa./ State College) has been named a 2003-04 BIG EAST/Aerospostale Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
A two-time Verizon Academic All-District selection, three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, and Dean?s List student, Beers-Altman is the Georgetown women?s soccer program?s all-time leader in single-season points (26) and goals (10). She led the Hoyas to the program?s best-ever finish in 2002, when she was the team?s offensive MVP and Georgetown climbed as high as No. 7 in the NSCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regional Polls. That year, Beers-Altman was twice named BIG EAST Player of the Week, and earned All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades. Beers-Altman was a 2003 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, and she scored seven goals throughout the season to cap off her career one goal shy of the Georgetown all-time record for career goals (25).
Beers-Altman will receive a $2000 scholarship for graduate studies. She was selected through voting of the league?s Academic Awards Committee.
