Hoyas lose to Wildcats 60-75

The Hoyas (12-6, 3-5) lost at home to Villanova (13-8, 5-3) on 2/5/04 by a score of 60-75. Brandon Bowman led the Hoyas in both scoring (18 points) and rebounding (8 boards), hitting 6 of 12 from the field while making a perfect 5 for 5 from the stripe. Gerald Riley added 13 tallies and Ashanti Cook contributed 12 before fouling out

            In the first frame the battle was well balanced- there were 5 ties, 5 lead changes and the largest lead was 6 points. The Hoyas shot 44.8% from the field while the Wildcats were hitting at 53.8% clip. While Georgetown was 3 of 5 (60%) from beyond the arc, Villanova was 2-9 (22.2%). GU went into the locker room at intermission with 1 fewer turnover, 2 fewer rebounds and 1 fewer point than the Wildcats who led 32-31.

            The battle continued even through the first 6 minutes of the second stanza with the score tied at 40 and 13:47 remaining in regulation. Then, the wheels came off. Villanova put together a 16-2 run, seemingly capitalizing on every Hoya turnover or missed shot. Georgetown worked the deficit down to single digits over the next 4 minutes with a 9-3 spurt of their own, but ?Nova?s dominance on the glass allowed them to quickly move the game out of reach.

            For the game Georgetown shot 41.8% while Villanova shot 50.9%. The Hoyas were outrebounded 25-38
