WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown?s men?s tennis team split two matches this weekend, downing local rival George Mason by a 7-0 score on Saturday afternoon and dropping a 6-1 decision to #38 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sunday.
The Hoyas Saturday afternoon match against George Mason began in unusual fashion as the singles competition was played first then followed by the doubles competition. In the six singles matches, the Hoyas went 6-0, dropping only one set along the way. In the doubles that followed, the Hoya teams of Kevin Killeavy (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla./ Melbourne Central Catholic) and Scott Faust (Miami, Fla./ Ransom Everglades) and Eric Conrad (Gloucester, Mass./ St. John's Prep) and Eddie Carver (Virginia Beach, Va./ Norfolk Academy) were victorious, thereby securing the team point for the doubles competition. The final score was 7-0.
The Hoyas traveled to Chapel Hill following the GMU win, and on Sunday took on a talented Tarheels squad, currently holding a #38 national ranking. UNC swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches. Junior co-captain Erik Bildman (Brookline, Mass./ Roxbury Latin School) had another outstanding singles performance, capturing a 6-3,6-1 victory over Aiken at #6 singles. The final score was Georgetown-1, North Carolina-6.
The Hoyas next match is schedule for Wednesday March 10 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Lynn University boasts one of the strongest NCAA Division II teams in the country.
