The Scoop
#10 Cornell visits the nation?s capital for its first meeting ever against #11 Georgetown in D.C. The Hoyas opened the year with a 14-5 loss to #5 Maryland at home, only the fifth home loss in the past five seasons. Cornell won a 14-12 affair at #11 Hofstra to open 2004. Georgetown owns a 3-0 all-time record against the Big Red. All three previous meetings were held in neutral locations including Geneva, N.Y. in the 2000 NCAAs (GU 14-12), Baltimore, Md. in 2002 (GU 8-5) and in Syracuse, N.Y. (GU 13-6) last year.
Georgetown?s defense allowed 14 goals to open the year, the most since a 13-14 loss to Princeton in the 2002 NCAA Quarterfinals. Goalie Rich D?Andrea had a career high in saves (14) but also gave up a career high in goals allowed (14). The Hoyas offense was spread out between five players, none of whom has scored more then two goals in their careers. Leading the offense was first time starter Kevin Langtry who had a goal and an assist along with middie Keith Schroederwho also tallied a score and a helper.
Cornell had two players score four or more goals against Hofstra. The Big Red was led by top goal man and midfielder Joe Boulukos who had five scores and attackman Sean Greenhalgh who notched four goals. Cornell was down 8-6 at the half but rallied for seven goals in the third stanza and held Hofstra to only four goals in the final 30 minutes.
