Georgetown (13-14, 4-12) lost to Virginia Tech (14-13, 7-9) on 3/6/04 by a score of 55-60. The 11,286 on hand for Georgetown?s senior night, as well as the television audience saw a closely contested affair in which the largest lead for either team was 7 points. Brandon Bowman paced the Hoyas scoring effort with 19, led all rebounders with 8 boards and led both teams in blocks with 5. This marks the third consecutive time Brandon has set the pace in both categories. Gerald Riley contributed 11 points and Ashanti Cook added 10 tallies.
In the opening minutes the Hoyas allowed the visitors to establish a 7 point lead 2-9. Georgetown then put together a 12-0 run to lead by 5. The Hokies ran off 6 unanswered and then so did the Hoyas. With 07:31 in the half Georgetown led 24-17 but by intermission the Hoyas? lead was down to 3, 32-29.
The see saw battle continued through the 2nd half, with Georgetown out shooting the visitors but turning the ball over at critical junctures. After more than 2 minutes of scoreless basketball, Virginia Tech?s Matthews hit a trey with 02:17 remaining to erase GU?s two point lead and put the Hokies up for good. In the final minutes the Hoyas were hurt by key turnovers and missed threes.
For the game the Hoyas shot 48.8% while holding their opponents to 40.0%. Georgetown had 18 turnovers while forcing 11.
