MIAMI, Fla. - Georgetown's men's tennis team began their spring training trip to South Florida by conducting a tennis clinic for the inner-city youth of Miami at the Ashe-Buchholz Tennis Center at Moore Park on Saturday morning March 6.
Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./ Georgetown Prep), Erik Bildman (Brookline, Mass./ Roxbury Latin School), Chad Mihalick (Sammamish, Wash./ (University of Washington)), Eric Conrad (Gloucester, Mass./ St. John's Prep), Alex Wright (Lexington, Mass./ University of St. Andrew's (Scotland)), Eddie Carver (Virginia Beach, Va./ Norfolk Academy), Floridian Kevin Killeavy (Indian Harbor Beach, Fla./ Melbourne Central Catholic) and Miami local Scott Faust (Miami, Fla./ Ransom Everglades) along with Coach Rich Bausch conducted a two hour clinic working with twenty of the tournament players from Moore Park's First Serve program. The clinic at Moore Park was coordinated by Director of Tennis Kim Sands and Leslie and Bob Botjer, parents of Hoya women's tennis player Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./ Ransom Everglades).
The First Serve program serves at-risk youth in a national partnership with the USTA, Burger King, Court TV, Microsoft, IBM, Governor Jeb Bush and the State of Florida and the National Junior Tennis League. The after school program includes providing the youth with access to volunteer adult mentors, tutoring, computers and the fun, physical activity of tennis.
Georgetown continues its spring training with a match at Lynn University in Boca Raton on Wednesday March 10 at 2:00 p.m.
