Georgetown University Men?s Basketball Head Coach John Thompson III today released the names of his assistant coaches. Robert Burke (Haverford ?88) and Kevin Broadus (Bowie State ?90, UDC ?95) have joined the Georgetown coaching staff.
?I?m pleased to announce that Robert Burke and Kevin Broadus have joined our staff. Robert was an integral part of our success at Princeton over the past four years and beyond his understanding of my vision, brings a wealth of coaching experience gained at different levels and in different parts of the country.
?I?ve known and watched Kevin for quite some time.? He has been an obvious presence in the DC area basketball scene and has also been active and successful on a broader spectrum. He is another quality individual who is excited about being part of Georgetown Basketball.
?I feel very fortunate to have these two men assisting me and we all look forward to the challenge ahead.? Coach Thompson said.
Robert Burke
Assistant Coach
Robert Burke brings 16 years of basketball and Division I coaching experience to Georgetown, including three NCAA and two NIT appearances in the last six seasons.
Burke served as an assistant coach at UMBC in 1988. He then spent three years on the West Coast as assistant coach at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Robert then came back east to serve for three years as assistant coach at Sienna College under Paul Hewitt. Most recently Burke spent four years as an assistant coach at Princeton under Coach Thompson.
A Silver Spring native, Robert played basketball with Coach Thompson at Gonzaga College High School in Washington DC. After high school, Burke was an MVP and team captain at Haverford College until sidelined by a torn ACL in his senior season.
Burke and his wife Michelle have a son, Connor and are expecting.
Kevin Broadus
Assistant Coach
Kevin Broadus has spent his entire life in the DC area. After playing basketball at Dunbar in DC and Montgomery Blair in Silver Spring, Kevin earned a BS in Business Administration from Bowie State (?90) and an MS in Counseling from UDC (?95). He served as assistant coach at Bowie State from 90-93, at UDC from 94-97, at American University from 98-01 and at George Washington from 01-04.
In addition to his extensive coaching experience, Kevin has worked as a summer camp coach and counselor for both the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks. After college, where he lettered in basketball one year at Grambling State in Louisiana and three years at Bowie State, in addition to coaching he served four years as a research assistant for the National Institute of Health.
Broadus and his wife, Belinda, have four children, Nicol, 20, Milan, 11, Paris, 9, Kevin, Jr, 8. They reside in Silver Spring, MD.
