WASHINGTON, D.C. ? 2004 Georgetown University graduate Michael Lombardi (Brookhaven Hamlet, N.Y./ St. Anthony's), a four-year player on GU?s baseball team, signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, June 12. He is currently at the Phillies training facility in Clearwater, Florida awaiting assignment.
Lombardi was a 2004 First Team All-BIG EAST selection, the first Georgetown baseball player since 1996 to earn First Team honors. He hit .348 on the year to finish 13th in the conference. It also marked the second consecutive year that he led the Hoyas in batting average, hitting .374 in 2003. His on-base percentage of (.426) also led Georgetown and he tied for the lead in runs-batted in with 37.
